Here’s the free pattern for the little magpie bird. I hope this project brings you as much joy as it brought me while crocheting it.

Material & Tools
Yarn and quantity: Premier Parfait Chunky in colors Black (8g), White (5g)
Safety eyes: 6 pieces of 8 mm yellow colored eyes
Hook size: 4.0 mm

This pattern is written in US crochet terminology.
slst: slip stitch
sc: single crochet stitch
hdc: half double crochet stitch
dc: double crochet stitch
st, sts: stitch, stitches
dec: single crochet decrease
inc: single crochet increase
Rnd: round
FLO: crochet through front loops only
BLO: crochet through back loops only
inc3: crochet 3 single crochet stitches in same stitch
Bobble-3-dc: Bobble stitch made of 3 incomplete double crochet stitches
Finished size: 9 cm ~ 3.5 inc
Now, let’s get started!
Head and Body
Begin with black yarn. Work in spiral rounds.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in the magic ring [6]
Rnd 2: 6 inc [12]
Rnd 3 – Rnd 4: 12 sc [12] [2 Rounds]
Rnd 5: 5 sc, 1 bobble-3-dc, 6 sc [12]
Rnd 6: 12 sc [12]
Rnd 7: 2 sc, 1 inc, 5 sc, 1 inc, 3 sc [14]
Rnd 8: 14 sc [14]
Rnd 9: 3 sc in a same stitch, 13 sc [16]
Change to white yarn.
Rnd 10: 3 inc, 13 sc [19]
Rnd 11: (1 sc, 1 inc) * repeat 3 times, 13 sc [22]
Rnd 12: 22 sc [22]
Place the safety eyes between Rnd 4 and Rnd 5 with 4 sts apart. You can add more eyes by placing safety eyes between Rnd 6 and Rnd 7 with 5 sts apart, Rnd 8 and Rnd 9 with 6 sts apart.

Rnd 13: 4 dec, 14 sc [18]
Rnd 14: 3 dec, 3 sc, 3 dec, 3 sc [12]
Stuffing the body as you go. Crochet 3 dec then fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.
Weave the yarn tail through the front loops of the last round and pull it tight to close the hole.
Make a knot to make it more secure and hide the yarn tail inside the body.
Tail
Mark the stitch in the middle of the back of Rnd 12 of the body. Attach black yarn on the marked stitch and crochet:
Chain 3, start to crochet into the second chain from the hook: 2 sc, slst into the marked stitch.

Next, chain 5, start to crochet into the second chain from the hook: 4 sc, slst into the marked stitch.
Next, chain 3, start to crochet into the second chain from the hook: 2 sc, slst into the marked stitch.
Fasten off and leave a long tail. Use the black yarn tail to embroider some black dots on Rnd 11 of the body.

Wing (make 2)
Begin with white yarn. Work in spiral rounds.
Rnd 1: 8 sc in the magic ring [8]
Rnd 2: 8 inc [16]
Now, change to black yarn. Slst in the next stitch then chain 3, start to crochet in the second chain from the hook: 1 slst, (1 sc and 1 hdc) in the next chain, slst into the next stitch of Rnd 2 of the wing and fasten off.



Leave a long tail of black yarn, embroider the circle between Rnd 1 and Rnd 2. Sew the wings to Rnd 10 on both sides of the body.
Hat
Begin with black yarn. Work in spiral rounds.
Rnd 1: 10 sc in the magic ring [10]
Rnd 2: BLO (4 sc, 1 inc) * repeat 2 times [12]
Rnd 3: 2 sc, 1 inc, 5 sc, 1 inc, 3 sc [14]
Rnd 4: FLO 13 inc, 1 sc [27]
Slst in the next stitch and fasten off. You can weave the yarn tail or leave a long tail to make the string of the hat by sewing the yarn tail onto the opposite side of the hat.
