Skills and Abbreviations

This pattern is written in US crochet terminology.

slst: slip stitch
sc: single crochet stitch
hdc: half double crochet stitch
dc: double crochet stitch

st, sts: stitch, stitches
dec: single crochet decrease
inc: single crochet increase

Rnd: round
FLO: crochet through front loops only
BLO: crochet through back loops only

Bobble-4-dc: Bobble stitch made of 4 incomplete double crochet stitches

Bobble-2-hdc: Bobble stitch made of 2 incomplete half double crochet stitches

Finished size: 10 cm~4 inches (not including ears).

Now, let’s get started!


Pattern Overview

This is a low-sew pattern. First, we’ll crochet the ears. Then, we’ll crochet from the top of the head down to the body. We’ll create the arms and legs with bobble stitches. When the body is finished, sew the ears onto the head.

The first part of this pattern includes the instructions for the Natural Bunny. The second part covers the modifications for the Cartoon Bunny.

Baby Bunny (Nature color)

Material & Tools

Hook: 5.5 mm/ I-9 hook
Safety eyes: 12 mm black safety eyes

Yarn: Weight #6 Yarn in colors:

Other materials and tools: yarn needle, scissors, fiberfill, stitch marker.


Ear (make 2)

Front piece: Begin with pink. Work in rows.

Row 1: Chain 5, start to crochet in the second chain from the hook: 4 sc           [4]

Fasten off.

Back piece: Crochet with gray. Work in rows.

Row 1: Chain 5, start to crochet in the second chain from the hook: 4 sc           [4]

Now, crochet the front piece (pink) and the back piece (gray) together. Chain 1 and turn.

Place the pink piece in front of the gray piece, and crochet through both sides of Row 1 (4 sts on each side) and 1 stitch on top of Row 1 (the pink piece should be closer to the hook handle):

Row 2: 3 sc, 3 inc, 3 sc [12]

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.


Head and Body

Begin with gray yarn. Work in spiral rounds.

Rnd 1: 8 sc in the magic ring                 [8]

Rnd 2: 8 inc      [16]

Rnd 3 – Rnd 4: 16 sc     [16]

Rnd 5: 1 sc, 3 inc, 5 sc, 3 inc, 4 sc [22]

Rnd 6: 8 sc, crochet in cream: 1 sc, (1 bobble-2-hdc, 1 slst) in the same stitch,

1 bobble-2-hdc, 1 sc, continue to crochet in gray: 8 sc, 1 dec [22]

Rnd 7: 4 dec, crochet in cream: 3 dec, continue to crochet in gray: 4 dec       [11]     

Place the safety eyes between Rnd 5 and Rnd 6 with 4 sts apart.

You can also embroider a few eyelashes on your bunny to make it even more adorable! Stuffing the head.


Continue to crochet the body after Rnd 7.

Rnd 8: (1 sc, 1 inc) * repeat 2 times,1 bobble-4-dc, 1 inc, 1 bobble-4-dc, (1 inc, 1 sc) * repeat 2 times [16]

Rnd 9: 4 sc, 1 inc, 6 sc, 1 inc, 4 sc  [18]

Rnd 10: 1 bobble-4-dc, 5 sc, 1 bobble-4-dc, 5 sc, 1 bobble-4-dc, 5 sc  [18]

Rnd 11: 9 dec  [9]

Crochet 2 dec and fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing. Weave the yarn tail through the front loops of the last round and pull it tight to close the hole. Make a knot to make it more secure and hide the yarn tail inside the body.


Assembling

Embroider the nose with pink yarn between Rnd 5 and Rnd 6.

Fold the ear and sew the ears on Rnd 2 of the head, with 6 sts apart.

Attach the keychain onto the top of the head and your little bunny keychain is done!

For this cartoon bunny, these are the materials and tools:

Hook: 5.5 mm/ I-9 hook

Safety eyes: 14 mm green glitter eyes.

Yarn: Weight #6 yarn in colors:

Clothes: Premier Basix Chenille Bright 34 Periwinkle, 38 Denim

Other materials and tools: yarn needle, scissors, fiberfill, stitch marker.


Follow the same instructions for the ears and head as the Natural bunny to make the Cartoon bunny. Only the different is using the purple eyes.

The body pattern changes beginning in Round 8.

After completing the head, switch to dark blue yarn at the end of Round 7, then continue with the body.


Rnd 8: (1 sc, 1 inc) * repeat 2 times, 1 bobble-4-dc in gray, 1 inc, 1 bobble-4-dc in gray, (1 inc, 1 sc) * repeat 2 times [16]

Change to blue yarn.

Rnd 9: 4 sc, 1 inc, 6 sc, 1 inc, 4 sc  [18]

Change to dark blue yarn.

Rnd 10: 1 bobble-4-dc in gray, 5 sc, 1 bobble-4-dc in gray, 5 sc, 1 bobble-4-dc in gray, 5 sc  [18]

Rnd 11: 9 dec  [9]

Crochet 2 dec and fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.

Weave the yarn tail through the front loops of the last round and pull it tight to close the hole.

Make a knot to make it more secure and hide the yarn tail inside the body.

Embroider the nose with pink yarn between Rnd 5 and Rnd 6.
